Death of social worker mourned
ITANAGAR, May 22: The Tarh Welfare Society (TWS) has mourned the demise of Tarh Kasung (Tarak) who passed away on May 11 at R K Mission Hospital here.
A renowned social worker, true priest and GB of Gaga village under Nyapin Circle of Kurung Kumey district, Late Kasung is survived by his two wives, seven daughters and three sons. He was the elder brother of TWS general secretary Tarh Miri.
In a condolence message, TWS wrote, “His untimely demise has left a huge vacuum in the Tarh family in particular and Nyishi society as a whole. We have lost a senior member whose place can never be filled up. His work and love for the society shall remain immortal in the heart of every member.”

Sokjar breathed his last at a private hospital at Guwahati on May 20 morning.
Late Sokjar Gamlin was the father of former Chief Minister Jarbom Gamlin and transport minister Jarkar Gamlin. He was a kind hearted and one of the visionary men of KKSU areas in particular and Arunachal Pradesh in general, the Union said in a condolence message.

ACF writes to parliamentary secretary home
ITANAGAR, May 22: The Arunachal Christian Forum (ACF) has written to parliamentary secretary, home, government of Arunachal appealing immediate action to address the grievances of Baptist believers who have been hurt due to destruction of Baptist church at Digal Mukh under East Kameng district on 21st May.
ACF has condemned the act of Assam officials. Such activity that lacks sensitivity to a religious establishment does not augur well for communal harmony in our state, the ACF wrote in a letter.
“We have learnt with great dismay that the Baptist Church building has been demolished by Assam Forest Department officials led by D.F.O, Biswanath Charali with the help of police. We appeal to the authorities to look into the matter and redress the affected people. This church was established in 1983. It is this 30 year old institution that the Assam Government officials have destroyed without issuing an eviction notice or taking into consideration the religious feelings of the people of Arunachal Pradesh,” ACF stated. “In a secular and democratic country like ours in which the freedom to practice one’s own religion is enshrined in the Constitution such actions should not be overlooked,” the forum added.
ACF has requested parliamentary secretary home to compensate the affected believers by helping them to rebuild the destroyed church.

ITANAGAR, May 22: Brain drain of India is a very well-
Technically brain drain means emigration of skilled people from one country to another country in order to explore better opportunities but in our reference it is from our state to different states. Today when we look around there are people in hundreds migrating from Arunachal to mainland Indian states in search for better opportunities and better education. Especially in metropolitan cities like Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai and lately Bangalore, where you can spot people belonging to Arunachal in a great number and figures increases every year.
So, what is driving away those people to move out from Arunachal to other states? When asked to the parent’s reason for sending large number of students to the outside state, they said “Because we want better future for our kids which other cities provides”. Also while interacting with an old lady she said, “I never had chance to go to school but I always wanted my children to learn and go to the city for higher education because I always heard from people that people going to Delhi, Mumbai gets very rich and they always speak in English and that’s what I always wanted for them to learn, earn and never to struggle like I did”.
It is like stating the obvious that parent’s wants best for their children but why
sending them outside the state. Can Our GOVT. be blamed for this? Is there a major

We have already entered the 21’st century yet the lack of introduction of advanced technology in our state’s education system has repeatedly failed to fulfil the need of today’s education. The need of today’s generation is very different from what it was like 2 centuries back. Upgraded technology is the need of the hour. We don’t have medical college yet in our state. Every year medical aspirants has to go out of the state in order to pursue their studies. Which can be proved good for our own but at the same time it brings us the shame to realise the fact that we do not own a medical college. But the issue doesn’t revolve around students going outside and studying, everyone has their own rights to go wherever they want and to choose and study whatever is right for them but the problem starts when our people starts working outside that is when the Brain Drain starts. There are large number of people working outside the capital because of obvious reasons better opportunities, reasonable income and most importantly adaptable to new lifestyle. Big cities provide wide exposure thus attracting the youth and offering them with ample amount of choices. People working outside the capital have the same opinion that working environment of big cities is much more intellectual and competitive and it is fun. We get the kind of freedom which we don’t have back in Arunachal. Whatever the reason behind the brain drain is but we can’t deny the fact that govt. has failed to promote employment avenues to the youth. They should generate scope for not just professions like engineers or doctors but also for mass media, fashion technology etc. Society claims young generation as the ‘future generation’ the one that will light us towards building the state into a developed state but what if there will be no young generation to hold on because the big cities have already grabbed their attention.
There are loopholes in our education system and students of every corner from Arunachal have something to say about how dysfunctional their schools are. No proper introspection of schools and colleges are done. There is no availability of basic amenities required to run the school.
Govt. should realise it soon enough that gone are the days of chalk and blackboard and to revaluate the education system and ensure not just proper checking of educational institute but to reinforce newly equipped and well upgraded advanced technology. And ensure to guard the skilled youth from outsourcing because in order to eradicate the corruption from Arunachal we need skilled and educated youth. We need educated professionals to led our state to emerge as a powerful and developed state from so called small village and also we need civilised and rational minded youth to bring in the change in the society and enhance the beauty of our culture in the way it deserve.
Late Kenglang selected for Lummer Dai Literary Award
ITANAGAR, May 22: The Assam Sahitya Sabha has selected late Kengsam Kenglang, one of prominent literatures from Arunachal Pradesh, for conferment of 3rd Lummer Dai Sahitya Bota (Literary Award) 2013, posthumously.
Late Kenglang, an Assamese writer from Changlang district, has been chosen for the prestigious award for his immense contributions towards Assamese literature, according to Arunachal Pradesh Literary Society.
He wrote several books in Assamese, including ‘Lonkai aru Thaknang’, ‘Teeli’ ‘Tangsa Janajatir Sadhu’, ‘Jene Kukur Tene Tangun’, ‘Aair Homan Hobo Kun?’. ‘Aair homan hobo kun’ has been translated into Hindi.
Previously, Kenglang was conferred with Phulchand Khandelwal Award, 2011 by the Sabha. He was the second Arunachalee to be decorated with the prestigious award after prominent author Y D Thongchi in the year 2003.
The Lummer Dai Literary Award – which carries a citation and a cash of Rs 25,000 – would be presented on June 1 on the occasion of 73rd birth anniversary of ‘Sahitya Surya’ (late) Lummer Dai, the renowned novelist, in a function at Itanagar by the ASS.

Rubber replaces jhum cultivation in Tripura

ITANAGAR, May 22: Rubber has served as a panacea in replacing shifting or jhum cultivation by almost 90% in Tripura, said Latex Pvt Ltd managing director SK Bhowmik.
Taking to this daily from Rangnala block cultivation area, one of the four sites taken up in 1992 as a joint project of the Rubber Board of India and Tripura government, Bhowmik informed that there are 58 blocks in the area covering about 1,000 hectares.
The area falls under Sipahijala district, which is known as rubber district of Tripura, the second largest rubber producer in India.
Giving the history of rubber taken up in 1963, he said that the RBI set up its first field station in 1967 under its Kalicot office while the state government formed Tripura Welfare Development Board, Tripura Forest Development & Plantation Corporation Limited (TFDPC) in 1976, the RBI upgrade the field station it to a regional office in 1976 to look after Tripura, Mizoram and Manipur and the state government set up Tripura Rehabilitation & Plantation Corporation Ltd to rehabilitate jhumiyas by persuading them to take up rubber cultivation with incentive of the state government and RBI and the success story is for everybody to see, Bhowmik said with confidence.

ITANAGAR, May 22: The International Day for Biological Diversity-
22nd May is celebrated every year as International Day for Biological Diversity as adopted by the United Nation General Assembly. The day commemorates the adoption of the text of the Convention of Biological Diversity on 22 May 1992 by the Nairobi Final Act of the Conference for the Adoption of the Agreed Text of the Convention. The ideology behind the celebration is to increase understanding and awareness on biodiversity issues. The Secretariat of the Convention on Biological Diversity, Montreal, Canada announced the theme of International Day for Biological Diversity 2013 as “Water and Biodiversity”. The theme has been chosen to coincide with the United Nations designation of 2013 as the International Year of Water Cooperation.
Speaking on the occasion, Arunachal Pradesh Chief Secretary H.K. Paliwal emphasized on conservation of biodiversity for quality water. He also said that development should not be hampered for want of forest clearance but suitable compensatory plantation in lieu of forest areas diverted.

Through your esteemed daily, I would like to draw the attention of all the right thinking people of our state regarding the issue of stipend money. The scholarship money has not been delivered to the student community who are struggling hard to meet ends. Our state govt receives massive fund from central Govt. for the development of education sector. But we are surprise to know how hard is it to dispense a sum of hardly Rs 7000 or 8000 each to just few hundred students? Therefore we the student communities have decided to know the actual cause for such injustice. Why we are kept in the dark side of the room while every ones knows that we are the future caretaker of the state? Henceforth I invite one and all irrespective of their caste, age or designation to participate in our rally against the people responsible for ignoring the backbone of our beautiful state, a movement of today for the betterment of tomorrow. The rally will be held on 24th of this month.

The stretch of road between Kendiya Vidyalaya No.2 and Vivekananda Vidyalaya, Itanagar is in poor state since last one year. The earth cutting done on the road between these two schools were meant to make the road a “National Highway” as per the Government, but now it seems that they have made the road more pathetic than ever. The road is full of potholes. Even the half portion of the road has fallen due to landslides and it made the road thinner and pathetic. This may also lead to road accidents. During sunny day the road gets too dusty that we even can’t open our eyes. It becomes all the more of a mess when it rains. Life gets difficult for the students and other people whose schools and offices are located in that area as they have to go through that road every day. So, keeping the above in view, I hope that the concerned authorities will initiate expeditious steps to ensure a good formation of the road in that area.

Dear Editor,
I on behalf of people of Arunachal would like to write down few things in regards to Right to Education (RTE) Act. We know that ambitious Right to Education (RTE) Act came into force in the year 2009. It was started to provide free and compulsory education to all children in the age group of 6 (six) to 14 (fourteen) years as a Fundamental Right in such a manner as the State may, by law, determine. It was started with a novel idea that envisaged to provide free education to many deprived children and has several clauses which ensure that the numbers of school dropouts are also reduced and hence taking care of the literary scene of the country where everyone becomes literate.
On the one hand, where the act has garnered many praises for making education accessible to all, the various provisions given in the Act has also received criticisms from all corners.

The Act makes it mandatory that the teachers have to be appropriately trained, like

And yes not to forget the absentee teachers. Most of the teachers after fighting tooth and nail for the recruitment find it cumbersome to stay in their posting places and instead prefers to stay in the Capital to prepare for their better avenue. It is also one of the reasons why RTE is still distant dream in the state. The no detention policy is another thing to be concern with, which in a way has discouraged the students to put in hard work. And because of the no corporal punishments clause in the RTE, many of the students are taking it in their stride to harass the teachers instead.

World to face water scarcity
Speaking on the UN’s International Day of Biological Diversity, Ban said there was a “mutually reinforcing” relationship between biodiversity and water that should be harnessed.
“We live in an increasingly water insecure world where demand often outstrips supply and where water quality often fails to meet minimum standards. Under current trends, future demands for water will not be met,” Ban said.
Water, food, energy and climate are all linked.
Most forms of energy generation require water, variable weather is making agriculture harder while extreme weather events are hindering natural water storage.
Ban believes there is an opportunity to address these challenges as the Millennium Development Goals are replaced with a new set of objectives.
